Safety & Maintenance Guide
At LanaCrocheting, we believe that a baby’s first sensory experience should be as safe as it is beautiful. Whether you’ve chosen our signature Highland Cow, a vibrant Sunflower, or the whimsical Daisy Cottage design, each mobile is a handcrafted heirloom made with love in our Northern Ireland studio.
To ensure your mobile remains a cherished part of your nursery for years to come, we’ve put together this guide on proper installation, care, and "refreshing" your mobile after its journey to your home.
✨ Just Arrived: Restoring the Magic
When your mobile first arrives, it may look a little "travel-weary" from its time in the post. Because we use high-quality 100% wool and cotton yarns, the fibers are natural and flexible, meaning they can easily be refreshed.
The Gentle Steam Trick: If you notice that your Highland Cow’s hair is a bit messy, the Horse's tail is flat, or the Sunflowers' petals have curled, a little steam will work wonders.
· Horns & Petals: Use a garment steamer or the steam setting on your iron (hold it a few inches away—never touch the yarn directly) to gently warm the fibers. You can then use your fingers to straighten horns or stretch out daisy petals to their full, blooming shape.
· Cow Hair: A quick puff of steam will help the "fringe" on your Highland Cow return to its fluffy, whimsical state.
· Wood Frame Warning: IMPORTANT: Please take care to avoid getting any steam directly on the wooden arch or frame. Our hangers are crafted from untreated solid alder wood sanded to be silky smooth. Keeping the wood dry ensures it retains its beautiful, soft-touch finish and prevents the grain from rising or warping.
🛠️ Installation: Finding the Perfect Spot
Your mobile includes a hook and a long cotton string, designed to be hung directly from the ceiling for a clean, minimalist look.
· The Golden Rule of Height: For optimal visual stimulation, the mobile should hang at least 50 cm (20 inches) above the crib mattress. This is the "sweet spot" where your baby can focus on the high-contrast patterns—like our white clouds against dark animals—without being able to reach them.
· Secure Mounting: Ensure you are hanging from a securely installed ceiling hook. Regularly check the hook and string to make sure everything remains tight and safe.
⚠️ Safety First, Always
While our mobiles are designed to support sensory development, they are not toys. They are decorative items intended for visual enjoyment only.
· The "Hands and Knees" Milestone: This is the most important safety rule: Remove the mobile from the crib or playpen as soon as your baby begins to push up on their hands and knees. At this stage, the risk of entanglement increases, and it’s time to move the mobile to a higher position (such as over a changing table) or hang it as wall art.
· Out of Reach: Ensure the mobile is always kept completely out of reach of babies and young children. If any part becomes worn or damaged, discontinue use immediately.
🧶 Caring for Your Heirloom
Since our products are made from untreated solid alder wood and natural yarns, they require gentle handling to maintain their "Artisan" quality.
· Spot Clean Only: Use a damp cloth to gently dab any dust or spots.
· No Submersion: Never machine wash your mobile or submerge it in water. This can damage the internal fiberfill or cause the wood to warp.
· Indoor Use: Our designs are intended for indoor environments.
By following these simple steps, your LanaCrocheting mobile will transition from a stunning nursery centerpiece to a cherished family keepsake.
